PostSubject: Arianne Greyson   Arianne Greyson Icon_minitimeWed Jul 06, 2011 7:13 pm

Name: Arianne (father’s surname: ) Lacey (stepfather’s surname: ) Corazòn (current alias: ) Greyson

Age: 18

Bounty: 6500 Beli (for being a member of the pirate crew, assaulting a marine and assaulting a naval officer)

Species: Human

Occupation: Scientist

Allegiance: The Milky Way Pirates

Home Village/Ocean: West Blue

Appearance:
Pre-Timeskip:
Arianne is a tall girl, standing at 5ft 9 inches. She is pale-skinned, slender and has short honey-blonde hair that rests at her shoulders as well as blue eyes. Due to slight short-sightedness, she must wear a pair of red spectacles when writing, reading or studying something in detail. She keeps them around her neck for safety and convenience, secured by a string of black and red beads.
Arianne wears a pair of denim trousers, black fingerless gloves, a red velvet vest, a white shirt knotted over it and sometimes a long red gentleman’s coat. She also wears a pair of black leather boots when she’s required to do a lot of physical activity or working on the docks and a pair of simple crimson heeled shoes when she’s relaxing.
Never one for vanity, Arianne prefers not to wear a lot of extravagant jewelry but does wear a black, ruby-encrusted cross around her neck as a symbol of her faith and a sign of her eternal bond with her loving mother and her loyalty to her twin sister.

Post-Timeskip:
Arianne is still tall but time spent living and sleeping outdoors has given her a much more tanned, bronzed skin-tone. Her honey-blonde hair has also grown out to waist length, a light wave in it due to its great length and she usually wears it loose and free with an ornamental rose pinned into the fringe- given to her by one of the biologists that she trained with. She still wears her glasses around her neck for safe-keeping but they are secured a small, silver, dainty but strong chain rather than the black and red beads as she slowly found this to be a less-bulky option than the beads.
Arianne has kept her trade-mark long red gentleman’s coat but has traded her long denim pants for a pair of thigh-length denim shorts. A thick leather strap hugs her hip-line snugly, her in a holster on the strap. Arianne’s legs are covered from the mid thigh downward by a pair of long black leather boots with red laces. She wears a white tank top with a black-bodice lace, given to her by her sister, that exposes her midriff, and newly acquired tattoo. Arianne views her tattoo as an undying symbol of her faith and personal ethos. The tattoo comprises of a biblical verse written in Sanskrit on Arianne’s side, just above her hip, reading: ” There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear ...” 1 John 4:18
Beneath that is the tattoo of an arrow entwined with lilies.
Arianne’s ears are now also pierced with small, simple gold rings and a faded scar runs across her shoulder from a previous conflict. After her training, Arianne’s muscles have become much more toned and as such, her bodily structure is less delicate than before.
The same as before, Arianne still wears her beloved ruby cross around her neck and her black fingerless gloves- though she will replace these with full black gloves when she is working. Additionally, Arianne wears a small chain clipped to the belt of her shorts, attached to the sample-collecting vial in her pocket.
She also wears her silver arrows in a leather quiver on her back, her seraph’s bow slung across her shoulder.

History:
Arianne was born into a wealthy family of merchant sailors and had a childhood steeped in the traditions of high-society and social class.
She has an identical twin named Elsinora, whom she has never seen eye to eye with.
Despite the girls having grown up side by side, being tutored together, travelling together and undergoing the onset of adulthood together- they both have personalities that are as different as day and night and therefore were in constant conflict as children.
However, even though they argued, Arianne still spent most of her time looking out for her “little” (younger by 9.24 minutes) sister.
Arianne, along with Elsinora, was nursed and practically raised by a governess but still grew up loving her mother and adoring her completely. A woman of society, she did not take a “hands-on” approach in rearing her two daughters but still showed her deep love for them by instructing them in dance, music and painting. Madame Lacey was also had a strong belief in the Christian faith and made sure that her twin daughters were brought up in the same highly religious tradition that she was.
Arianne loved her mother and always had a high respect for her.
However, her relationship with her birth father was not half as loving or as understanding. Lord Lacey was the owner of a successful merchant ship fleet that spanned the West Blue however in spite of his luxurious lifestyle, he became self-destructive and drank excessively. He was a tense, paranoid man who suffered constant mental breakdowns- distancing himself from his wife and often completely ignoring his two daughters.
Once when Arianne was five, she spoke to her father directly for the first time, showing him a picture that she had drawn and called him “daddy”- something that she had never been permitted to do.
Her father proceeded to push her away in a half-drunken rage and shout at her, saying. “I am not your daddy. You are no child of mine. My only real children are the sons that I never had...the boys that you and your sister killed in your mother’s womb. You are both witches! Parasite witches born of the Devil’s seed...the Devil...”
And that would serve as a summary of her relationship with her father.
It also created an indirect sensitivity for Arianne regarding anything with the word “devil” in it- as it now evoked a sense of resentment for her as well as the natural connotations of evil.

He passed away, dying of a liver failure when the girls were eight years old. Arianne was scolded for not crying at her father’s funeral but she, herself, didn’t know why she had to. The man lying in the coffin was little more than a stranger to her.
Still, at her mother’s orders, she prayed for his soul.
When Arianne was ten her mother remarried, this time to a man named Admiral Corazòn. The wedding was arranged in order for the girls to preserve their lifestyle and for the family to keep its money and despite the loveless and cold nature of the marriage, Admiral Corazòn was a noble man who treated his new wife and stepdaughters fairly. Noticing Arianne’s zest for learning, he even arranged to have books brought to her every day and for her to accompany him to various bases and ports across the West Blue to watch the Marines train.

It was around this time that Arianne began to become aware of the whole wide world outside her own little closed world of formalities and snobbery. She began to crave freedom, feeling suffocated by everything from her boring daily routine of small-talk and preening to the restrictive corsets and crinoline that she was forced to wear in order to fit in with the women of her class. She greatly resented her lessons in etiquette and posture and the heavy emphasis that was placed on appearance, reputation and looking down upon the lower classes- particularly as she found it to be conflicting with her religion, which placed such emphasis on love of all people and equality.
Arianne spent most of her life being overshadowed by her sister- a girl who was a lot more coy, bubbly and outgoing than she was. Whilst Elsinora was flirting with sailors in port, Arianne was far too shy around boys of her own age to even speak to them. She’d sooner read a good book then go out trying to socialize with people and soon her aloofness began to worry her mother.

At fifteen, both girls made their debutante and were introduced to society for the first time at a grand ball. That night, their mother presented them with identical cross necklaces encrusted with rubies.
While Elsinora attracted most of the attention with her charm, the older twin’s cleverness and quietness also caught someone’s eye.
Arianne was shocked when a marriage was swiftly arranged for her to a Marine Lieutenant who was much older than her. In her first genuine act of rebellion, she refused her potential husband and three more after him, refusing to marry for any other reason but love- seeing how a marriage for money and wealth had never brought her mother happiness in life. Elsinora, at this stage, had also refused several marriages- but she had different personal reasons for doing so, (namely a secret lover or two).
She eventually made a decision to devote her life to her faith by joining a convent, despite her sister’s mockery and her mother’s protests.

However, this was never to be.
Two nights before Arianne was to leave to begin life as a novice, Admiral Corazòn’s residence was attacked and raided. Arianne’s mother locked both of her daughters in a cellar to keep them hidden and keep them safe. This action saved both of their lives but their mother and stepfather were not as lucky. The house was torn asunder and both the Admiral and his wife were slaughtered along with the guards and servants in the house.
The two girls managed to break from the debris the following morning, alone and terrified, whilst the ransacked house was being cleared by Marine troops.
Elsinora dissolved into panic at the sight of her parent’s bodies, unable to think straight. But Arianne was overcome by a sense of helplessness and rage. She had had strong faith but she had been unable to rescue her parents due to a lack of fighting skills. Fighting back tears, she asked one of the troops about who had attacked and murdered her parents as she had been unable to see the assailants while locked in the cellar. The Marine could only confirm that the attackers were a group of pirates and that despite the excellent security surrounding the house, they had been able to break in easily as many of them were Devil Fruit users.

The two girls spent months in mourning- unable to make a living for themselves and virtually abandoned- but were fostered by a kindly woman who had found them wandering aimlessly around in the streets. The woman soon offered them both comfortable, well-paid jobs...in an uptown brothel, which Arianne immediately refused.
Elsinora took the position, seeing it as an effortless way of making money and not seeing any better alternative.
After a long argument, the two girls ended up splitting up, Elsinora staying at the brothel and beginning her (admittedly successful) career as a courtesan and Arianne, disgusted with her sister and disillusioned with the world, left the town completely. The two girls, however, did make a pact to keep in contact and wear their She hitched a ride on one of the merchant vessels previously owned by her blood-father and ended up in a small island town in the West Blue.
However, she had no idea how to fare on her own- having been brought up in a life of luxury and despite her broad education, she lacked extremely basic survival skills and within a week, was half-dead from starvation and exposure, passed out in the streets of a small town.
Once again, fortune was on Arianne’s side and while anyone else may have robbed, murdered or raped her upon finding her- she woke up later that fateful day in the warm, secluded island-home of Eric Greyson. The fifty year old man was a retired pirate who had worked as a doctor and a scientist on his crew’s ship. He had seen her lying at the side of the street and her blonde hair and pale skin had reminded him of a former late crew-mate whom he had been close to and had a fatherly relationship with. He nursed her back to health and upon hearing about her past, he took pity on her. Greyson, lonely from being the only one of his crew-mates to escape execution, made her an offer. He would give her lodgings, food and anything that she needed and in return, she would become his apprentice, his ward and provide him with the company of another living being.
Arianne accepted and began masquerading as Greyson’s illegitimate daughter, learning everything she could about the sciences of the world from him. She soon forged a close relationship with him and came to love her life at his residence. The young woman was still haunted by her past, but suddenly her future became brighter. She kept correspondence with her sister as she had promised to, writing letters to her whenever she could.
Greyson gave her complete freedom and for the first time, Arianne was allowed to wear whatever she wanted to. He also took her to the docks whenever he needed to go there to pick up research material. In the middle of her studies, she began to read into the lore of the Devil Fruits and soon developed a theory about them, coming to believe that they ruined the lives of their users and were a perversion of nature. She eventually affirmed that Devil Fruits did not “improve” or “empower” their users but led to ultimate self-destruction. Coupled with her studies was the knowledge that her mother and stepfather were killed by a Devil Fruit user. She made it her life’s goal to formulate a serum that would counter-act the effects of Devil Fruits and “cleanse” their users of ,what she saw as, diabolic corruption.
She loved listening to Greyson’s tales of his pirate-days and his adventures in the Grand Line and soon longed to go there herself. Arianne also, still haunted by the fact that she was unable to help her parents on the night of their murder, begged her foster father to teach her bow-craft and swordsmanship and thus inherited his Scarred Sabre and his Seraph’s Bow- learning to use them as her own.
Arianne spent most of her days working on the docks, helping Eric bring his research material to the house and to unload ships with him. As such, she soon gained an interest in and basic knowledge of the structure of ships.
After a year or two, Eric wanted Arianne to have a life of adventure of her own and told her that if she ever wanted to further her studies of devil fruits, she would need to actually encounter some of things that she was reading about in real life.
After preparing her for the journey, Eric gave Arianne money (though she protested) and saw her off, telling her that she was always welcome to return, regardless of whatever she needed or wherever she ended up.

Arianne travelled to a few different islands, taking notes on devil fruits and looking for pirate crews- with great caution. For a while, she was quite wary of approaching any potential captains, greatly aware that most pirates- although most were not evil- rarely had good intentions in the real world and a group of them had killed her parents.
It was in Windmill Village’s tavern that Arianne met the vivacious young captain, Saki Star, head of the Milky Way pirates.
The crew seemed admirable, the captain was a fair young woman and interestingly, the crew had a high number of devil fruit users- perfect for clandestine research.
However, more significantly than becoming the scientist of the Milky Way crew, Arianne first met the kind, handsome, courageous Avery Crusher, (and his loyal canine companion, Lawrence), and soon afterwards- much to her own surprise- she fell deeply in love with him. It wasn’t long until the two of them were involved in a relationship.
He also joined the Milky Way Pirates, thus solidifying Arianne’s affiliation to the crew.
Together, he and Arianne managed to defeat the vicious criminal Derek Slavo and his gang and were given a ship of their own, the White Hart.

Only a few weeks later, Saki declared that she wanted her crew to separate to train in their individual fields for a year. Arianne had spent much time getting closer to Avery, getting to know him as she had never come to know another human being and so she was deeply saddened at this, even though she knew that it was for the good of the crew.
After bidding the crew farewell, Arianne left and spent her time travelling between islands in South Blue- first meeting up with the leader of an organization of outdoor biologists known as “Spiral”, who lived in scattered tribes in jungles on islands across the South, studying wildlife by immersing themselves in it.
Arianne found this a huge contrast to her previous life of indoor pampering. Although life on a ship had been easy enough to adjust to for her, it took the young scientist quite a while to get used to living out in the open, in a tent in the middle of a jungle.
Soon, the hot, humid weather, highly aesthetic lifestyle and rugged, dangerous terrain started to take their toll on Arianne’s appearance and she found her previously milky skin turning a soft brown, her previously light limbs gaining a layer of hard muscle.
She hugely broadened her knowledge of natural biology among the other professional biologists, particularly the naturalist, Amerie Envele, who helped Arianne to adopt a survivalist mindset in the jungle.
During her stay there, Amerie fell ill due to the bite of a venomous snake. With no one else around, Arianne had to figure out a means of sucking the venom from the flesh wound before it reached Amerie’s blood vessels using only her knowledge of human anatomy. Using a green bamboo tube, she managed to remove the venom before bandaging Amerie’s arm.
Arianne abruptly realised just how important medical skills are and how skills as a biologist can greatly overlap with the field of medicine. Deciding that pursuit of this area would be beneficial to the Milky Way Crew, Arianne left South Blue after two months of life there.
Before Arianne left the tribe and island, Amerie gave her an ornamental rose to thank her and as a remembrance token of their friendship.

On Amerie’s advice, Arianne travelled to East Blue to Toroa, to meet up with the reputable village doctor. It was here that she extended her knowledge of basic first aid as well as chemistry- learning how to form different drugs, arson materials and anaesthetics by using root elements and raw materials.
She spent quieter days in a library there, reading as much as she could on both periodic chemistry and Devil Fruit lore, soon coming to make correlations between the two. Arianne devised a theory that if certain genetic and chemical structures could be terminated in the flesh of the fruit, the effects of the fruit on the human being could be dulled or even, theoretically, completely terminated.
However, much to her chagrin, she was unable to test the theory...Devil Fruits being difficult to acquire when one has no link to the Black Market.

After another two months, Arianne travelled back to West Blue to her foster father’s house. Eric was overjoyed to see Arianne again, however her choice to reunite with him was not simply fuelled by sentimentality- she trusted him and him alone to instruct her in combat. Living in the jungle and even observing Avery while fighting had Arianne wanted to perfect her technique in order to be a useful asset in battle to the crew.
After training with Greyson, Arianne went to visit her sister.
To her great surprise, Elsinora was delighted to see her and in rather good shape- still beautiful, perfectly healthy and thankfully, Arianne had no nieces or nephews to worry about.
No longer living in the brothel, her sister had a house of her own- however she still used her successful career as a promoted high-class courtesan to fund her lifestyle, most of her clients being rather wealthy, (much to Arianne’s great distaste).
Arianne stayed with her sister for a while, catching up with her, mostly to ensure that the sibling that she had once been so protective of was living well and safe. Though the rough nature of the neighbourhood shocked and didn’t agree with Arianne, she allowed her twin sister to show her around, introducing her to her rather colourful group of friends from the brothel.
Arianne got a chance to use her new fighting skills sooner than she had expected. One day a group of men approached Elsinora, Arianne and some of her friends, one of them having recognised Elsinora. They cheekily suggested that Elsinora “introduce” them to Arianne too and became aggravated when Elsinora angrily told them that she was off-duty and that Arianne was not in the “goods for sale” section of the market. Arianne was stunned by her sister’s acquired courage and assertiveness but the men became indignant and attempted to assault Elsinora, her friends and Arianne.
Arianne drew her sabre and fought them off, finding them easy sword-polish in comparison to Derek Slavo and his gang. However, later, Arianne found out that the men were in fact, off-duty naval officers and that someone had reported her to the authorities for assault of them. Furthermore, someone had identified her as one of the Milky Way Pirates spotted on Orange Island.
They now had a name to place to Arianne’s face.

Arianne now had a bounty on her head and Elsinora was eternally grateful to her older sister. Arianne stayed with Elsinora for a further few weeks, trying to bring prayer back into her sister’s life and somewhat reluctantly accepting dance lessons from her.
Under Elsinora’s pushing, Arianne also got her ears pierced on a whim and after much deciding, decided to let her skin go under the needle, getting her tattoo.
Elsinora was extremely intrigued to learn about the Milky Ways and especially Avery. Her sister who had once wanted to run away to a convent was now a pirate and madly in love with a pirate helmsman.
Though she was a little irked when her sister turned down her offer to learn a few “tricks” to make Avery happy- content with her knew knowledge regarding how to waltz.

A month later, trained and brimming with new knowledge, Arianne received the knowledge that she had been made head of one of the divisions of the Milky Ways. Shocked by this but determined not to let Saki Star down, Arianne accepted the responsibility and set off to reunite with her assigned crewmates, Elsinora insisting on accompanying her until she met up with them once more.
Arianne took to the sea once more, her heart full of anticipation, particularly regarding seeing her love, Avery Crusher once again.

Personality:

Pre-Timeskip: Arianne is a quiet and aloof young woman, with a zest for learning. Because of her past experiences, she has a desensitised lack of emotion which can make her appear rather stoic and cynical- however beneath her icy mask, she is always willing to show kindness and compassion to those in need due to her deep religious faith.
She is a young woman with good breeding and manners. Arianne is also bookish and enjoys reading, especially poetry and scripture. She has a highly scientifically-based sense of logic and reasoning but allows science to interweave with her faith rather than contradict it.
She is usually calm and serene in nature, but two things in particular will unleash a deep hatred on her behalf.
She despises anyone who endorses or supports Devil Fruits, regarding them has detestably unnatural. She sees Devil Fruit users as evil-doers who are going against the will of God and the laws of science, however she sees unwilling or accidental Devil Fruit users as victims who need to be helped and will grant them sympathy.
She also absolutely despises being mistaken for her rather harlot-esque sister, especially by one of her sister’s many past lovers.

Post-Timeskip:
Though Arianne's deep faith, bookishness, capacity for compassion and kindness and quiet, aloof nature have not changed, she now has a broader view of life and the understanding that just as all pirates aren't necessarily evil, neither are all Devil-Fruit users. However, she still regards the Akuma no Mi as a gross perversion of nature and a distorter of God's creation and as such, she still wholly endorses the destruction of them as a breed of plant.
Arianne also has a new kind of respect for her sister, despite still despising the work that she does. She now realises that despite her occupation, her sister is still good at heart and for the first time, is starting to see with her eye to eye- the two of them, surviving and pursuing life as they view it.
Furthermore, Arianne is no longer as reserved as before- her experiences in battle and with other people- especially her romance with Avery- having given her new confidence, courage and faith in the human race as a whole.

Ship: The Andromeda, The White Hart

Ship Flag: N/A

Devil Fruit: N/A
type: N/A
effect: N/A

Special Abilities: Is efficiently adept at archery and fairly good at sword-fighting. She also has a good knowledge of human biology and physics.

Learned Techniques:
Tenshi no Surashu (Slash of the Angel) : Arianne brings the serrated blade of her sabre in a quick, clean but devastating slash across her opponent’s torso, tracing from their left shoulder, across the chest and to the base of their abdomen.

Picadura del Sable (Bite of the Sabre) : Arianne drops to the ground and sweeps her leg beneath her opponent’s in a kick to unbalance them. She then takes advantage of their lack of balance and slices the tendons in the backs of their shins with her sabre- rendering them immobile.

Cascada Rojo (Red Waterfall) : Arianne plunges the sabre into the abdomen or gut of her opponent, thrusting it upwards towards their ribcage once fully embedded to the hilt and then withdraws it sharply. The attack name is derived from the attack’s result.

Oleada Divino Plata (Divine Silver Surge ) : Arianne swiftly fires an arrow from her bow, straight into the chest or neck of her opponent.

Uniòn Macabre (Macabre Union) : Arianne fires an arrow with her bow into the foot or leg of her opponent and during their ensuing fit of pain, rushes forward to slice across their neck with her sabre.

Àngel de la Muerte (Angel of Death) : Arianne takes a simple sewing needle and inserts it into the third valve of the jugular vein in a person’s neck, slowing their pulse rate and creating internal bleeding. The pain of the attack is a mere sting but if left an hour without being treated, it will kill the victim.

Weapons/Items: Scarred Sabre, Seraph’s Bow and arrows

Goals: (1) To rid the world of all Devil Fruits, thus “purifying” the world.
(2) To “cure” all those who have eaten Devil Fruits via medical science.

(4) To find her place in the world, free from her sister’s reputation and her family’s
conservative, suffocating expectations.
(5) To support, protect and love Avery Crusher for as long as she exists.
