"Far-Lander" Ethel Layton Empty
PostSubject: "Far-Lander" Ethel Layton   "Far-Lander" Ethel Layton Icon_minitimeSat Oct 08, 2011 10:52 pm

Name: Ethel Layton

Age: 18

Bounty: 20,000

Species: Human

Occupation: Fighter, Shoveler

Allegiance: Non-affiliated

Home Village/Ocean: East Blue

Appearance: Ethel is a freakishly tall man, standing at a height of seven feet and zero inches. He has broad shoulders and a well-toned back. He has an athletic build with a large frame. His arm-span is seven feet four inches and he has impressively large feet. His skin is olive-tan.
Ethel has soft, ice blue eyes and thin arched eyebrows. His hair is coffee brown colored and unruly. Over his greasy mat of hair is a brown leather cap; the untied chin straps fall down over the side of his head and cover his ears. Blocking out his eyes are some thick goggles; the heavy grey lenses don't actually block his vision. When he smiles, his grin stretches from cheek to cheek.
Ethel wears a thick tan leather shirt for armor. Under it is a navy blue polo. He wears a cheap pair of sack cloth pants. The knees have been worn through and there are dirt stains all about his trousers. Over his feet are two black rubber boots. He wears black fingerless gloves.
When he is not carrying it, Ethel's shovel is strapped to his back.

History: Few memories of his homeland are left inside Ethel's head. He can remember his grandfather was an explorer who retired young and his father was a gold miner. His family was blessed with a lucky streak and a hell of a fortune. Ethel can even remember the day he had to leave. His grandfather picked him up and ran out to an escape boat. Ethel can still see the flames reaching and climbing, wildly flailing forth from his family's estate.

Ethel never saw his family again, except for his Grandfather who raised him. He promised himself he would never forget why or how it had happened, but as time went on the memories slipped away from him. But no matter how long it had been since he was forced to leave his home on the Far-Lands, Ethel's grandfather kept a momento with him that left the images of the fire smoldering in his mind. It was a shovel and it had special powers. The more Ethel thought about it, the shovel had to be magical. He wanted nothing more than the shovel; finally Ethel got to use it on his fifteenth birthday.

Things are never simple, however, as the circumstances he first held that spectacular spade under were anything but joyous. He watched his grandfather die. The peaceful old man was murdered for his wealth by a small group of bandits. Little did the band of thugs know, the most valuable possession the geezer had was a shovel.

Ethel was overwhelmed by rage when he saw what they had done. He grabbed the spade and began to hunt them down.

Blood stained his hands. He stared in fright at the dead bodies, lying in front of him. He was kneeling down over one in particular; the man who had slain his Grandfather was held inside Ethel's hands. Ethel noticed the smell of burning and realized what he had actually done. Not only had he killed five men, he had burnt down their camp in rage.

That moment set Ethel on a different path; the path of a pirate.

Personality: Ethel's attitude shows his youth; he is rambunctious and foolhardy. With a world-class wanderlust, Ethel leaps before looking. His zeal is almost as impressive as his stupidity. Subtlety isn't his strong suit, in fact it's the opposite. Ethel is the kind of man who only has simple solutions to problems big or small. He fancies himself a fearless man; however, he is not immune to intimidation. Sometimes he slips into a state of savagery where he cannot contain his primal fury. When he is reduced to nothing but an angered beast he tends to act far crueler than he normally intends to. While he would easily snuff out a man's life while enraged, under normal circumstances Ethel would find it very hard to kill someone. As much as he is morally against murder he is not averse to violence and considers fighting to be a quality stress release.

Ethel enjoys eating fruit, especially berries. His favorite food in the world is the grape. He is a pescatarian for a simple reason; he hates most meats. Poultry, beef, and pork all do not appeal to him at all. He enjoys listening to music, but only in small amounts as he has a short attention span. He enjoys simpler forms of humor and does not understand sarcasm. Generally, Ethel is an amicable man, but he can be irritated by pretentiousness or other forms of snobbery.

Ship: Dinghy (it's a dinghy)

Ship Flag: Non-applicable

Devil Fruit:
Type:
Effect:

Special Abilities: Ethel Layton posesses the strength of a fishman; a strong one.

Learned Techniques (Keep it 1-25):

1. Crush- Ethel lashes out with his shovel, smashing the blunt face of the blade into a various part of his opponent's body (preferably the face). Upon impact a powerful shockwave is released onto the enemy. This burst of force is used to flatten his opponent or squish them into the ground.
2. Launch- Ethel swings his shovel with the full force of his back; at the start of this attack the blade is raised behind and above his head. With an arcing swing, the blade goes down til the shaft is parallel with the ground. From there, the swing continues until the blade is past him and once again above his head. An opponent hit by this strike is launched away several feet (10-30) depending on their size.
3. Trip- Instead of hitting his opponent, Ethel targets the ground directly under his opponent's feet for this strike. With a rapid thrust, Ethel stabs his spade into the mark, sending a shockwave into the ground below his enemy. As a follow up, Ethel shovels his opponent's footing into the sky, causing them to fall down if they cannot avoid the attack.
4. Slash- Before striking, Ethel turns his shovel's blade so the edge faces his opponent. The dulled side of his shovel strikes his opponent with force, allowing for a much more accurate attack. Ethel uses this move to target joints or other weak-points an enemy may have.
5. Pit- Using his incredibly digging skills and special shovel, Ethel digs a large pit in a matter of seconds (thanks to the power of Poseidon's Scoop, stone doesn't slow down the process). However; this move does not just create a pit. It also creates a mound of whatever was filling the pit before it was removed.

Weapons/Items: Poseidon's Scoop

Goals: travel to the Far Lands
