Mina Layton Empty
PostSubject: Mina Layton   Mina Layton Icon_minitimeSun Aug 07, 2011 9:00 pm

Name: Mina Layton

Age: 18

Bounty: N/A

Species: Human

Occupation: Cook

Allegiance: Pirates

Home Village/Ocean: Toroa, West Blue

Appearance: Mina stands at 5ft 8 inches and has long, thick ivory-white hair that falls to her mid-back and a thick full, fringe that covers her forehead. She normally ties back this fringe with a yellow and navy hairband when cooking or training with her pistol. Her eyes are a  dark, inky blue and rimmed with large, full eyelashes, making them appear big and almost stereotypically feminine and juvenile. Mina wears a short, sleevless yellow sundress that comes to her upper thighs and is decorated with a navy print flower pattern and a navy sash. Mina has a relatively large chest that tightly strains against the collar of her dress and is often the only clear evidence that she is not a very young girl. She also wears a pair of white thigh high socks and bright yellow ankle boots as well as black fingerless gloves. Mina wears a yellow garter with her shot pistol in it in plain sight on her right thigh and a gold pocket-watch around her neck. Her skin is a light, tea-coloured shade and she wears a tattoo of a basic Jolly Roger outlined with a yellow heart on the back of her neck.

History:
Mina's origins are enigmatic and to this day, she herself is unable to solve the mystery of her true birthplace.
On a stormy night, on the island of Toroa, a group of shady pirates stumbled into Rick and Emily Layton's inn, ordering drinks and settling down to discuss their plans.

The Laytons were both talented cooks, known around town for their skills and delicious meals.
Both Richard "Rick" Layton and Emily (née Harris) Layton were from families of pirates themselves and had spent many years together on the same crew before finally getting married and settling down- mainly to avoid arrest.

The pirates seemed agitated and edgy about something and spent hours arguing in hushed voices as they ate plate after plate of food.
As they were about to leave, Rick demanded that the captain pay the bill however it turned out that the crew only had enough Beli to pay half pf what they owed. The captain then offered a compromise- a "valuable treasure" that the crew had found on a raid.
Intrigued, the Layton couple took the offer and the pirates shoved a small, grubby cloth bundle in Emily's arms and left before they could see the couple open it.
The Laytons were shocked when they pull back the folds of cloth and reveal
a tiny baby girl, on the brink of death from starvation and too weak to even cry.

They considered calling the authorities at first but Emily soon deemed it to be "fate" that they the infant had been brought to them. They had been trying to have a baby for over a year with no results and now it seemed that their wish had been granted.
The Laytons called their new daughter "Mina" and hastily nursed her back to health, feeding her and providing her with all the nourishment that she needed.

Mina grew up with the knowledge that she wasn't Rick and Emily's biological daughter as her adoptive parents decided that keeping it a secret could be potentially devastating for her in later life. It never really bothered Mina that she wasn't their blood-daughter; they loved her and that's all she needed to know.
She started helping her parents in the kitchen at a young age by performimg odd jobs and eventually went on to waitressing and working at the bar.

Mina's adolescence and childhood was steeped in piracy and her parents also made their history no secret to her-telling her all about life on the sea, introducing her to their old Nakama and taking her on an annual trip each year to a different island in the West Blue.
When she was eleven,
Mina swore that she would be on a crew of her own one day and immediately started saving up Beli for her future ventures.
She loved listening to their tales of battles with the Marines, escaping capture, fighting with Fishmen, meeting mermaids, seeing the powers of the Akuma no Mi and coming into conflict with other pirate crews.

In her mid-teens, Mina also came to enjoy listening to the stories of other pirates who came to the inn while working as a waitress.
While serving a tankard of grog or two, she would often banter with the pirates in the bar and quickly forgot about her work when invited to play cards, darts or just to sit down and join a crew that were in town for the day.
The male customers would often flirt with her whilst she was serving them food, drink or cleaning their guest rooms upstairs at the inn. Though she never allowed anything but the occassional wink or smirk in her direction, cheeky comment or the brush of a shoulder, Mina still flaunted her "appeal" in order to get more generous tips (often much to her mother and father's annoyance.)

Emily Layton was a markswoman on her previous crew, before her husband taught her to cook and passed on her skills to Mina, teaching her how to shoot like an expert and to manipulate firing styles to suit a situation.
Rick Layton was from a family of cooks and taught his daughter all there was to know about culinary arts as well as how to prepare nourishing meals with minimal ingredients.
One day when Mina was sixteen, her father fell ill and was unable to work in the kitchen for a few days. Mina filled in for him beside her mother and instantly fell in love with cooking, the same way that she had fallen in love with the life of a pirate.

For a long time, she contemplated leaving home but was always held back by the fact that Rick and Emily had saved her life as a baby and she owed it to them not to just abandon them.

The moment she turned seventeen, her parents informed their grown-up daughter that they would be hiring a new barmaid and no longer needed her to work there- essentially telling her that they wanted her to go out and to finally begin her own adventures.

Eagerly, Mina embraced this chance and, with the gift of her father's pocket watch for good luck, she set off on her own journey, her own goals and intentions set for herself.

Personality: Mina is an outgoing, confident girl with an outspoken nature. She is only serious when it comes to food and fighting and looks upon everything else with a breezy, easy-going attitude. Though lazy and prone to procrastination at times, Mina is also optimistic and has a good sense of humour.
She has a distinct weakness for gambling, rare wines and sweet snacks- chocolate brownies being her speciality dessert.
She can appear careless at times but despite a slacker's exterior, Mina has a fiery zest for life, a rebellious attitude and a tough sense of endurance.

Ship: N/A

Ship Flag: N/A

Devil Fruit: N/A
type: N/A
effect: N/A

Special Abilities: Mina is highly skilled with her pistol and can make near-impossible shots at a far range without much difficulty. She is also a talented cook and, thanks to her father's training, can quickly prepare numerous filling meals, even adapting recipes to suit whatever ingredients she has on hand.

Learned Techniques:
1. Roundhouse Ricochet Shot: Mina will deliberately fire a bullet into a solid object at such an angle that the bullet ricochets off the solid and curves to hit her target.

2. Boomerang Bullet Shot: Mina fires the bullet into a solud object behind her opponents head but flicks her wrist to curve the path of the bullet as she fires. Much like the Roundhouse, the bullet ricochets off the object but in this case, while it appears Mina has missed, the bullet is deflected back into the target's head.

3. Bellybutton Blast Shot: Mina fires a bullet directly into the navel of her opponent, causing them immediate intense pain and forcing them to double over.

4. Russian Roulette Shot: Mina plays this deadly game of gambling with her target as a victim if she happens to have them restrained. Out of a ten bullet magazine, Mina gives her target eight chances...meaning that they'd better hope fortune is on their side.

5. Acceleration Axis Shot: An extremely difficult move in which Mina fires one bullet straight after the other, the latter bullet knocking into the first bullet and accelerating it- increasing its velocity.

6. Fake-Out Shot: At a close range, Mina points her gun at her opponent's head pretending to be about to shoot...and then punches them in the nose and/or knees them in the groin.

Weapons/Items: A regular pistol and several magazines of bullets.

Goals:
1. To become the best cook in the world.
2. To join a crew and become part of a Nakama.
3. To live life to the fullest, especially life as a pirate.
4. To find some kind of information about her birth-parents.
