Azuke "Shadow" Phoenix Empty
PostSubject: Azuke "Shadow" Phoenix   Azuke "Shadow" Phoenix Icon_minitimeThu Feb 07, 2013 7:45 am

Name: Azuke "Shadow" Phoenix

Age: 24

Bounty: N/A

Species: Human

Occupation: Swordsman

Allegiance: Pirate

Home Village/Ocean: North Blue

Appearance: Azuke "Shadow" Phoenix Shadow10
Misc:
His height is 2,15 meters.
He weights about 90 kilos.

History:
Shadow, or Azuke Phoenix as he was named back then, was born in an island in the North Blue called "Magenda". It was a relatively small island, that only had one city, but a pretty large for such an island city, a city named after the island. Azuke was born by a Nobles woman named Ayako, wife of a very respected, even amongst other nobles living there, man named Bartholomew. Respected he was amongst those others that were like him, but not as much as feared to commoners living in this city, as like most other nobles he looked down upon others not in the same status as him, regarding himself and his family as superior. Nevertheless, and despite his cruel and misguided attitude, he did cared about his own family, and was happy with the birth of that boy, as it was his first child, his first son.
Years passed and the little baby grew up, and begun showing that he was different than most people in their circles. Very bright for the age of five, Azuke did not appreciate the way his parents and just about any other noble would treat others, or how they behaved in such as, for his eyes, "fake and plastic" way, a fake life. He was rebelling against his family, often leaving the house in secrecy to just roam around the outskirts of the "Noble area". Right, this city was effectively two cities. In the middle was the place where Nobles lived, and around there, was a wall about 5 meters tall, separating them from the common people. Azuke was fascinated about going there to see and live like those people lived.
About three years later, Azuke had found ways to leave and enter the other part of the city, and he enjoyed it there much more. He found the people there much more friendly and real than the falseness inside those walls closing in the Noble world from this, the real, world. And there, one day ..
"Oh, good mornin there, you are .. that little boy! Ahaha!" A young man, probably 20 years old at most, with brown messy hair, and a dirty shirt that writes "Thug-Life", teases young Azuke, who in return punches the man on his head.
"My name is Azuke! Shut up!" Azuke yells, angrily. Now, about that young man, his name was Lingo, and he was a jobless man that was pretending to be a big-shot pirate(wannabe). He would occasionally enter the Noble area, to loot. Now how do those two know each other, one day Lingo was seen by a pair of guards, and was chased down. Azuke happened to have sneaked out of his house again that day, and happened to stumble upon a hidden Lingo. The guards came by close, and found the boy. Azuke was asked why he was out that late, and if he saw a man running this way. Azuke led them the wrong way, thus saving the man from getting caught. Ever since that day, and since Azuke was getting inside the main city, Lingo was considering the boy a friend, although he'd often tease him about his age.
Lingo also had another "talent"; he knew a lot rumors and what was new around town, and would often chat with Azuke and tell him news and stories, although usually he was just overdoing it and exaggerating his stories, to the point of one day claiming to have beaten a Sea King with his bare hands and a flint. Leaving that aside, today Lingo had some bigger, and this time more legit, news to discuss about.
"Say, boy, haven't you told me that you would love to learn how to use a sword?"
"My name is Azuke you bastard! .. ah? Yeah, why do you ask me that all of a sudden?"
"Well guess what! Heard there's this old man that is opening up a Dojo in the hill just outside of the city!"
"Is this some other stupid story of yours, like the one that said the Pirate King came from here and GREETED YOU?!!"
"No, this one is true! .. I mean, he DID came and greeted me!"
"Yeah right. But really now, a Dojo?"
"Yep, don't you believe me? Come with me tonight, let's go and check it out!"
And that same night, Shadow left the house and carefully made his way to the walls. There was this one spot that had a hole, and he would cover it up with a rock. He could just barely squeeze in, and reach the other side. And so, he entered the main city and found Lingo waiting for him at the place they agreed to. Nodding, they begin walking towards the gate, which was actually nothing special, anyone could get in and out, as it was never really closed, the guards were occupied by the Nobles to protect them, rather than the other people living there. Walking for about an hour, they reached the spot. And there it was. But it really wasn't what Azuke would woke for. Heck, this place looked like it would crumble and fall if he kicked it hard enough. That sure wasn't that good a sigh, but there was this sigh there saying "Ocean Ripple" and below it would state that this was in fact a Dojo. What a weird way to "market" your place. Arguing, and saying that this just can't be an actual Dojo, he and Lingo suddenly hear a voice from behind them.
"May I help you?"
"GYAAAH!!!"
Both Lingo and Azuke nearly fell down from the surprise and the fear. Lingo then gets up, and taking a stance that showed he was supposedly going to fist fight the man, he speaks, with a shaky voice. "I-I don't know who you are, but I'm a .. FISHMAN KARATE PRACTITIONER, STAY AWAY!" The old man simply laughs kindly, before he shakes his hands around.
"Now now, that would be dangerous for me, although, I wonder how would a human like you know this battle style? Or, are you a fish?" He says, laughing kindly, and then walks past them and gets in the Dojo.
"What was that now? He completely ignored us!!" The duo both yells, eyes popping out. After some seconds, the old man appears again, and waves at them, asking them to come in. Suspicious, they slowly walk towards the man, looking really goofy and stupid. The old man then moves his hands, that he had hidden behind his back, and as Lingo gets scared and goes to that pose again, the old man merely reveals a pair of bowls with ramen in. "You must be hungry walking all the way here, have a seat and let's eat."
Getting inside, they sit down, and the man sits in front of them. They silently look at him and at each other, then the old man begins to casually eat, as if they are not there, or he knows them for years and has no reason to ask them something at the moment.
"GYAH, WHO ARE YOU? WHY ARE YOU OFFERING ME FOOD?!" Azuke yells.
The old man looks at him, and smiles. "Eat first, then we talk." He says, to which Azuke stops talking, flusters, and begins to eat alongside his friend. After they ate, they ask again, to which the old man once again doesn't reply, instead he takes a pair of bamboo rods and throws em at them. "What are you doing?" Lingo says. The old man takes a sword, and takes it out of it's sheath. Lingo and Azuke gulp in fear, but the old man merely makes a sudden, swift and elegant motion, and then puts the sword back. "Welcome to Ocean Ripple."
And that was it, from that day on, Azuke would begin to, at first slowly, then more and more often, go to Ocean Ripple and be taught about swordsmanship. He soon learn that the old man was actually doing all these free of charge, much to his pleasant, as well as Lingo's, surprise. The two would go together sometimes. The place didn't really had a lot of students anyway, probably about 15 to 20 people would go there, despite the lessons being free. Azuke loved this place. Sure, it looked like a badly-build wooden structure, but it was where he was taught of how to fight using swords, or as Saito, that was the name, he only got to ask the old man about that about a week after he first met him, would call it, "the way to dance alongside the silver ripples". Typically, his parents would chase him down and try to make him act like a noble, but Azuke was against it. Unable to control him, they left him have some level of freedom to his actions, although they still didn't knew that he was going on such a place.
An thus, 3 years passed since then. Azuke, 11 years old now, would go there virtually everyday, to train and talk with his sensei. He was quite a wise man, and would tell him lots of stories, stories that actually seemed valid, compared to Lingo's over exaggerating madness. Azuke had also grown an interest into rare swords, and he could tell that there was this one sword in Saito's possession that was really rare and powerful. It was a sword with a white handle, gold protector and beads around the hilt, and a really sharp, majestic blade that shined a brilliant silver reflection when light would hit on it. He had asked him once where he got such a sword, but Saito merely said that he found it on one of his many journeys.
However, this way was different. While Azuke was reaching for that point of the hill where he can see the Dojo, his usual smile faded, and was replaced with shock and anger, as in place of the Dojo, he found smoked, burned down woods and wreckage.
"W-what is that?!!" Azuke yells. He then hears a voice, and sees Lingo rushing towards him. "What happened here?!"
"About that .. quick, come back, they are looking for you, and they also seem to have put Mr. Saito into custody!!"
Soon afterwards, Azuke was locked inside the house, unable to do much. His parents had found out where he was going, and he could tell, they were responsible for this somehow. Some days later, the police arrived, and asked for Mr. Bartholomew to allow them to interrogate Azuke. That was weird to Azuke, but his father coldly agreed and escorted them to the station. There he found out the truth.
"W-what did you said?" He says, gasping, while talking with the police captain.
"This man is no other than the infamous pirate, Marco Zest. The marines have been looking for him for years. He's a veteran of the Grandline, and a man with a bounty of 330,000,000! Thanks to your parents, we investigate this new Dojo and cross-referenced information, thus figuring out that he's that man!"
"That's impossible! Saito-sensei said that he has no problem with pirates but that doesn't make him.." Azuke's cut short by his parent.
"I knew my son would get in trouble again, he always messes up and so.. but in a way, he was helpful to you, right? So, surely you can.. let his involvement with that horrible man slip, right?" He offers the man a large amount of money, disgusting Azuke. Then they leave, with Azuke struggling to get off, but unable to do so.
Two days later, late at night, he heard a knock on the window. He reached, and much to his surprise, he found Lingo there. How did he climbed up that high? Opening the window lightly, not to be noticed by the many guards, he begins to talk with him.
"How did you came here?"
"Well, let's say that I'm one heck of a good thief! Anyway, tomorrow at 2pm, they are going to execute Mr. Saito!"
"What?!!"
Azuke decided to try and do something to stop this. The very next day, when the maid tried to get inside Azuke's room, she found him missing again. He alongside Lingo went and reached the execution sight, in the area of the main city. It was filled with people already, the Nobles sitting in a separate area from the other people. Splitting, they decide they will cause chaos to prevent the execution from happening. Until, Azuke stumbles across his own father. "Son... he turns and points at Lingo, he is captured. "Stay a good boy, and they won't hurt him.." he calmly says, and Azuke is forced to do basically nothing but scream.
Their sensei then arrives, with many guards holding him with chains, in case the pirate with that massive bounty would try to escape. Amongst the crown, Azuke crying. They happen to pass really close from him. And then, while crying, he hears his sensei's talking, whispering, to him. "Go to the Dojo's site, and then walk about 2 hours to the north, you will find a small building, enter it. Thank you for being my first student." They walk him into the tall stand, and prepare to kill him. "Any last words?" one of the executioners asks.
"Everyone, there is no crime to be yourselves! Follow your heart, and follow your dream. Be it a pirate, be it a marine, a worker, a hunter, it doesn't matter, nothing is wrong .. when you do as your heart tells you!" And with those wise words, the man left this world.
It was weeks later than Azuke actually decided to go where his sensei told him. Lingo was actually beaten up and thrown in jail, despite what his father told him. Anger boiling down, he reached the place the Dojo was, and then went the direction he was told. There, he really did found a small shrine-looking object, and pushes the door. Much to his surprise, he sees that one sword, the sword he know it had to be really rare and strong. Alongside with a note. "To my greatest student, I leave this sword. Take it, and become whatever your heart tells you. There's no wrong in you if you follow your dreams and heart." And there, Azuke cried, it was the second last time he cried in his life.
6 year later, Azuke being 17 now, supposedly for the nobles, it's at this age that they are men now. However, no celebrations happen. Instead, his parents scream and yell in anger, as they look towards a small ship sailing away from the island. Inside it, Azuke Phoenix. Having continued to train on his own, with this prized sword his master entrusted him, he begins to set off to the world, to become what he wanted to be. A pirate, a free man. His only remark is that one day he will return to free his friend from this place, Lingo.
Now, some things of what happen next are unknown, but soon afterwards he joined a pirate crew, a crew called "The Wings". It was a rather small, but really strong, crew, consisting of about 10 people. Soon he got along with his crew mates, especially with the captain, "Bargaa Pallanza", a fellow swordsman called "Bryan Hawk", and a girl, about his age, named "Tabitha Grey".
Years have passed, and now, Shadow, aged 22, is with those people for the past 4 years now. They have traveled all across the North Blue, entered the Grandline, then came back to North Blue, and back to Grandline again. Their captain was an adventurer, he loved this thing, and this freedom. The crew had also gained a lot of infamy, with 5 of the now 14 people on board having bounties. Most notable ones were his captain's, at a pretty large 97,000,000 beli as well as Bryan's bounty of 67,000,000 beli.
Now, that Tabitha girl, she was 21 years old, and much like Azuke, she didn't had a bounty yet. She had purple hair and a white piece of fabric wrapped around her head, like a bandanna. She used clawed fists as her weapon of choice. And she was basically Azuke's best friend, calling him "Shadow" due to the black colored circles around the man's eyes that looked like shadows of his eyes. One night, Azuke was just laying there, minding his own business, when her head appeared above his, glaring at him.
"Hey, Shadow!"
"Stop calling me that you idiot! What do you want?"
"Ah nothing."
She lied down next to him, putting her hands under her head. They just stared at the stairs, a pair of youngsters, of pirates, of people just learning about this world.
"Do you have any dreams, man?" She suddenly says.
"Dreams? .. eh, being free is enough of a dream, and I'm living it now anyway!" Azuke replies, but she immediately starts. "My dreams is to one day .. see this world in peace. Like, everyone just be okay with others w/e they want to be. Peace, you know, like this white bandanna, eh?"
"I was still talking .. and what, like a bandanna? What does that even mean?!!" She laughed instead, asking if she said something stupid, to which Azuke agreed and got punched in the guts.
Some months afterwards, disaster stroke. All of a sudden, the crew is attacked in mid-sea, but a really powerful ship. There's a flag, so it's obviously a fellow pirate ship. "Dammit, another hit like that and the ship's done for!" the captain yells, and he alongside Bryan try to redirect incoming attacks.
"Shadow I'm scared..."
"Don't be, it's not the first time we were in a pinch, we will beat the crap outta them again!" As soon as he says that, the captain orders a retreat, much to his surprise.
"Whoah whoah, what? In the middle of the fight, what will we gain captain?!" Azuke's pushed down, and his captain, really serious and scared, says that the just have to, if they wish to have a small chance to escape.
"This is no ordinary ship or crew... this is the ship of one of the Shichibukai!!"
Azuke's blood froze when he heard that. A Shichibukai? Why did one of those men attacked their crew? Did they happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time? But he didn't had time to think, because, that same moment, a sword pierces through his captain. "C-captain?.."
The man that just stabbed him, it was what made Azuke, and everyone else, freeze. It was Bryan, the first mate! And before anyone can react, a loud bang is heard, a pair of men have just landed on their ship.
Introduction Box:
Royal Shichibukai (and currently an Impel Down LVL6 escapee), Mathew Black "The Poison", former bounty: 222,000,000 beli.
Member of his crew, "Black Gorilla" Dotche, former bounty: 105,000,000 beli.

Those two man just landed on board, possibly jumping there, and immediately, they begin taking down the crew.
"BRYAN!!!" Azuke yells, and dashes towards the man, but before he reaches him, he notices that Dotche, a really huge man by the way, is actually holding a cannon, and fires off a round at him. "SHIT!" an explosion occurs, and Tabitha holds her mouth in sheer terror. From the ashes and smoke however, a bloodied up Azuke dashes, much to Dotche's surprise, but this time, Bryan comes and parries up the blow, and thus they begin to fight.
"Why... why are you doing this ... what .. WHO ARE YOU?!"
Bryan easily gains the upper hand, slashing Azuke many times, but he doesn't fall. Dotche comments on the young man's incredible resilience.
"Why?... Let me tell you why." Bryan then unleashes a horrible attack, that slices Azuke's torso all the way down, he even hits portion of the neck. "Because... I was tired of this, this traveling, this pointless "adventure". I don't want this anymore. But I'm a wanted man, aren't I? After the last raise, our captain's bounty is at 158,000,000 beli! The marines really want to get him so.. Can't just escape ... luckily, I made an agreement with that man over there, if I lead you to him, he will petition that I join the marines, with my bounty erased .. comfy, right?" He goes for the finishing blow, but Tabitha appears behind him, and tries to attack him, while crying. Then, a large lumb of a purple substance hits her, making her smash onto the deck, breaking it down. "T-TABITHA!"
"Forget about her..." The Shichibukai calmly says. "I ate the Doru Doru no Mi, I'm a poison-man, and she just got hit by that poison. She will die in just a few minutes." Azuke rolls towards her, while the captain, the only one still standing, is getting pummeled to death by those 3 evil people.
"I-I guess that .. I won't get to see my dream come true huh? ..." she says softly, barely breathing.
"Don't talk .." Azuke says, he really can't say anything positive right now anyway. She takes her bandanna, and wraps it around his sword's handle that he left next to her. "At least have my bandanna of "peace", and try to .. find your own peace, Shadow.." she says, smiling, as she passes away. Moments pass, before an endared Azuke grabs the sword and attempts to attack Bryan, who stops the blow, but seems surprised. "You are seriously durable... it's a shame you are not nearly as strong." He kicks Shadow to the ground. "We will never meet again, goodbye." Bryan says, as he and the Shichibukai jump on a boat. As Azuke tries to get up, Dotche looks down at him. "See ya in hell, little fish!" And then, he pummels the man into the air with an iron mace. Things get slow, really slow, and Azuke begins to lose consciousness.
"Shit ... I'm dying... captain.. Tabitha.. Sensei, Lingo... I'm sorry I wasn't strong enough to..."
When he woke up, he realized it, slowly, that he is still alive. He tried to get up, but couldn't, the pain was immense. He then realized that, he was inside some room. He was also bandaged all over the place. Someone got inside, an old man with a long wavy beard. "Ah, you are awake!"
The old man explained how he found Azuke's body at the beach 2 days ago. He was surprised to see the person was still breathing, so he took him home. In all of his unluckiness, Azuke happened to fall across a former doctor, a really talented one in fact, considering that he saved him after he sustained such devastating wounds. He then asked the old man if he wound anyone else, to which the elder said that he didn't. Seeing him frown, the old man asks him his name. "My name .. is Shadow. Thank you, old man."
2 months later, the man now named Shadow left, thanking the old man, and took, or rather, stole, a small boat, leaving this island. He has no idea what happened, but somehow, he survived, and somehow, the old man found his swords next to him. Looking down at the piece of fabric wrapped around Shiro Sazanami's hilt, he speaks, and cries for the last time. "I'm sorry, Tabitha... but, to find peace .. I will first find this piece of crap!" saying that, he raised the sword, making it glow silver. Months later, he heard that Bryan not only joined the marines, he was also partly responsible for that Shichibukai's revoke of his status and capture. Obviously Bryan had a big plan. And thanks to all that, he already reached the rank of Vice-Admiral by the time we reach the current events. Shadow entered the Grandline, where he begun traveling to strengthen himself so he will beat Bryan next time they meet. To survive, he became more like a bounty hunter, but he decided to only hunt down pirates and bandits that are actually bad. Adventurers like Saito-sensei or his captain, he'd never do that. And thus, his travels bring him to a small island in the vastness that is the Grandline ...

Personality:
Contrast to what his thug-like features may indicate about his personality, Shadow is actually a pretty kind and relaxed individuals. While most of the time he prefers to stay alone and doesn't seem too interested to participate into things others alongside him do, he likes to have people around him, even while he keeps that distant stature. He is quite easy to anger, although most of the time that anger is mainly displayed mildly and makes him look goofy rather than intimidating. He is also actually a very good talker, and he is perfectly capable of giving advices to others, or even take leadership into a critical situation. Despite that, he maintains a low-profile demeanor, and only takes the lead or comes in to advice someone when the time is needed, or if things are dangerous/bad, and there's nothing else to be done to correct things. He has a liking to swords, to the point where he might be considered a "sword-worm", if that's even a word, and knows several names of swords, usually being capable of separating a good sword amongst others.
He also seems to be uninterested into following rules, if they make no sense, and dislikes being ordered around without any serious reason. In fact, if given an order that makes sense or sounds logical to him, by someone superior than him, for example, his captain, he will go on and try to accomplished what he's asked to do as perfect as possible. Disliking riches and the fake and full of vanity world of the Nobles, he would always try to get away from this lifestyle as a young boy, causing all sorts of trouble and even leaving his house at times, spending a lot of time with his swordsman teacher, Saito. He loves swordsmanship, and believes that every person has the right to have a dream and follow their heart, despite him claiming that he no longer has any big or meaningful dreams, which may stem from being hurt from the hard times he went through all those years.
While as mentioned above, he is kindhearted, and is actually somewhat sweet towards women, he almost never shows himself to be hurt or in a sad mood, usually retaining a calm, distanced, yet confident and carefree behavior. He is against hurting women, and finds it nearly impossible to actually hurt a woman, which prevents him for fighting with any female enemy. He is also not very good when it comes to any romantic-related subjects, and often dismisses such situations and things as "mushy stuff".
Having lost his original crew, Shadow has grown even more distant, but still retains his normal personality on most part, except that he now strongly believes that anything and everything has an end, and that as it's inevitable, one can either just give up, or savor that something until the end comes.
He also has a thing for bitter coffee. He tents to whine that anything else but bitter coffee is just "not coffee, but a sugar drink that has a brown color". He even goes as far as to claim that bitter coffee is "a man's drink".

Ship: N/A

Ship Flag: N/A

Abilities and Powers:
General
"Shadow" is a relatively physically strong individual, with enough strength to lift about twice his own weight with one hand, an impressive, albeit average in comparison with stronger pirates that swarm the far reaches of Grandline, feat nonetheless.
His endurance on the other hand is easily considered superhuman, being able to survive dangerous situations, such as being blasted off a ship from a cannon that fired at almost point-blank range, only to emerge still standing and able to fight without being hindered, although he was visibly wounded, getting several slashes from a powerful, infamous in the Grandline, swordsman pirate named "Bryan", and even surviving getting struck on his head by a large iron mallet used by an enemy. All those events occurred in the same event, which showcases his impressive durability.
Speed-wise, he is very fast, which is his main selling point, as he's not as strong as other swordsmen are when it comes to sheer brute strength. At the peak of his speed, he can dodge incoming projectiles, such as bullets and even cannon balls, assuming that he sees it coming as doesn't realize of the incoming while it's already going towards him. His arm movement in particular is impressively fast, allowing him to confuse his opponent, giving the impression that he swings around more blades than he normally has.
Outside of direct combat capabilities and stamina/durability, "Shadow" is fairly smart, a quick thinker and strategic, and he uses those attributes to his advantages, quickly plotting a counter-attack against an opponent's pattern, or being able to fish out their weak points and use them against his enemies.

Swordsmanship
Shadow employs a two-sword style, using his prized "Shiro Sazanami" and "Fukitsu Kuro" katanas. His battle style mainly focuses in speed rather than brute strength, his sword's great sharpness making up for the lack of superhuman strength features seen in other swordsmen in the Grandline. He is capable of firing several slashes in a moment, or attack with trusting motion in such swift succession, it gives off the illusion of several sword's been fired like darts towards the enemy. His level of swordsmanship is high enough to allow him to slash through wood and rock, as well as steel, assuming that it's not a very thick layer that he tries to slice.

Learned Techniques:
1. Faster: Shadow moves close to his target and fires off a rapid barrage of stabs with one of his swords, in speeds that give off the impression that he's moved less times than in reality.
2. Cross Guard: Shadow places his swords in a cross-like position. This can then be used either defensively or even offensively, knocking away enemies that are too close.
3. Cross Split: A move that comes after "Cross Guard", Shadow releases his guard to deliver a devastating "X" shaped slash onto his target.
4. White Draw: Delivers a slash coming from below, using his Shiro Sazanami.
5. Black Draw: Similar to "White Draw", only that the attack comes from his other arm, and by using the "Fukitsu Kuro".
6. Arm Breaker: Shadow grabs one of his swords with both arms, raises it upwards, and using the momentum as well as his own force and weight, strikes down at the opponent, potentially breaking their weapon or shield, or anything in between, in the process. This attack is powerful enough to slice cleanly through a 1,5 inch layer of solid steel.
7. Jolt: A 2-5 combo attack of slashes with either of his swords, or even both of them, aiming at the enemy's torso.
8: Jolt Hell: A much stronger version of "Jolt", where Shadow unleashes a barrage of dozens of slashes in mere moments, potentially dealing devastating damage to his target(s).
9: Spinning Fang: Shadow spins around one of his swords, and upon reaching close to his opponent, he lashes out the spinning sword from either below or from above, with his other blade coming from the opposite direction, creating a condition where the enemy gets attacked from 2 directions at the same time.
10: Chopping Right: A swing coming from the mid-section, delivered at incredible speed, and as it's name implies, coming from the right side.
11: Whirlwind: One of his most powerful attacks, Shadow spins once rapidly and powerfully, releasing a gust of wind and energy, enough to deal damage and sent the enemy flying, breaking through wood and rocky surfaces in the way.
12: Crab Hammer: More like a swords version of a Guillotine, Shadow brings one sword below and one above the enemy's head, and proceeds to cut off their head. He only used this move once, as he dislikes killing others.
