Marta's 'Heartbeat 50' Empty
PostSubject: Marta's 'Heartbeat 50'   Marta's 'Heartbeat 50' Icon_minitimeSun Feb 03, 2013 1:56 am

Weapon Name: Heartbeat 50 (for the set)

Description: A pair of utensils, spoon and fork, that can extend to around 6’ (182cm). While the outside is gold-plated sterling silver, when extended the interior—the “staff” portion—is revealed to be wooden, varnished and stained in a deep mahogany hue. If one were to look closely at the handle, they would see that it is engraved with several delicate hearts. Sheathed, the items can still be used for regular eating purposes, but due to the increased width to allow for the staff mechanics it would be a little awkward. Unsheathed, the two weapons would be akin to a pitchfork and a shovel.

Special Abilities: The wood, while not completely invulnerable, is dense enough that it can stand up to many strikes from metal weapons like swords. If the effort is made, it can still be destroyed (saws, fire, repeated strong hits in one spot, etc.).

History: If someone was to hear of an elite fighting squad made up completely of people who chose cooking implements as their weapons, chances are they would laugh it off. Luckily, they probably would not be targeted by the Petit Fours (which does not only have four members; a common misconception), peacekeepers of the city of Marrymore on the South Blue. While some members pick up more conventional fighting objects such as frying pans and butcher knives others are more eclectic with their choices expanding their fighting repertoire to items like spice jars and even pastry bags. However, no matter what they pick their choice always is directly attuned to their personal skills and no two people have the same weapon.

Needless to say, Marta didn’t exactly fancy herself a fighter: she was a lover, darn it! But when seeing how often the metropolis was targeted by ne’er-do-wells she knew that her family was at risk especially since her mother was the owner of one of the largest businesses on the island. For the protection of her family, she found she could put her loving nature aside for a bit and turn to a more violent side. Of course, there was the problem of not actually knowing how to fight.

Not actually wanting to get close to battle, she tried many a ranged weapon at first, but nothing seemed to really click and, if her teammates were completely honest, she had terrible aim. But, as it is with some people, one day the answer just clicked. During an attempted raid, one of the other members, a fellow by the name of Gregory Miles that she was rather friendly with, was overpowered by one of the would-be thieves, his razor-sharp apple corer clanging against falchion steel: it was clear that his weapon wouldn’t be able to match up. Tossing her blow darts (which, in actuality, were corn skewers) to the side, she foolishly leaped from cover and just started beating the raider with a nearby large branch that had fallen during the skirmish. Needless to say, it was super effective.

After the battle ended and all undesirables were escorted to a cozy room behind bars, Marta was left to think about how she had adapted to her situation and how she may have even enjoyed actually doing some damage for once. Mostly she just felt terrible about it, though: did she really need to be that rough with the guy? He must have had so many concussions. The esteemed leaders of the Petit Fours didn’t allow her to dwell on her actions, instead they brought up an idea that perhaps a change in her fighting style wouldn’t be terrible. After arguing for a while that being at melee range would be awful and she didn’t really want so hear the cracking of their bones and other such maidenly worries, someone suggested that they create something that mimicked the branch: a weapon with power behind it, but enough distance that Marta didn’t feel as though she had front row seats to the suffering of her foe. After several designs and several bruises, the perfected form of the inseparable pair of the Heartbeat 50 was complete. Although her stance on fighting hasn’t changed entirely (she’s still not a fan), even when she’s away from her friends she can be reminded of them with each strike against an enemy’s bone with the weapon they all forged together.
