Ajax Sinclair Empty
PostSubject: Ajax Sinclair   Ajax Sinclair Icon_minitimeThu Mar 08, 2012 1:46 pm

Name: Ajax Sinclair

Age: 24

Bounty: none (But has a few fake posters, just in case)

Species: Human

Occupation: spy

Allegiance: Marine/Navy (or, according on his current job, pirates or rebels)

Home Village/Ocean: West Blue

Appearance: Ajax has short, dark blond hair, which always seems to be messy. He's about 6'3'' tall, and slim, but athletic. He's also a chain smoker, something he even does when he's "on duty", as he calls it. This time on duty has gotten him a bit of a tan, which he doesn't mind too much, he has never been one to care for his looks. He always wears sunglasses to cover his light brown, almost yellow eyes, as he doesn't want to take the risk of anyone reading in them. Whenever he doesn't need to fake his feelings, he always has a tense, aggressive look on his face and could lash out at anyone any moment. That makes him quite dangerous to stay with if you're not a person he needs to fool.
Recently, he has acquired a large scar on his right arm, starting on his wrist and going square across his forarm, then continuing over his chest and finally ending on his left shoulder. Therefore, he seems to prefer shirts with long arms. Specifically, he has found out that shirts with black and white stripes seem to get him sympathy points especially with pirates. He guesses it's because they remind them of a prisoners uniform a bit, and therefore give them a feeling that he's on their side. Or that's what he figures.
With that, he wears dark grey, long jeans and a beige cloak (which tends to get him sympathy from revolutinaries, who subconciously link it to their own uniform... it's all in the details). To lessen his chance to be recognised by anyone, as well as to help him hide his emotions better, Ajax has also taken on wearing an old, light brown hat he took from one of the pirates who fell victim to his schemes one day. All in all, he doesn't look like a marine at all, so much so that even marines frequently confuse him for a civilian, or even a pirate at times.

History:
Ajax was born the first child of two wealthy merchants, having one younger (seven years younger, to be exact) sister by the name of Clara, a bright minded and lively child, who he loved and still loves very much, even though he barely remembers her.
From a small age, he was spoiled, though his sister was actually the big hope of the family, since they could tell he was much too aggressive and close minded to be a merchant. Not that he minded their disappointment much, he never really cared a lot for his parents, deemed them too stiff and boring for his liking (though they were naturally still good enough to get him whatever he wanted). Plus, they were the kind of people who wanted to overlook their business and take part in it themselves, and so they often left on long journeys, during which he had the big, empty house all to himself. He admits it was lonely sometimes, but it was what he was used to after all.
His sister would sometimes also go with them, even though she was only a toddler, as their parents thought that the earlier they started teaching her, the easier it'd be for her later. They did it only out of love, love for their precious daughter. Love they seemed to lack for him, as he hadn't been on a ship even once until he joined the marine. Today, he figures they could at least have given him a chance, and maybe that was one of the reasons he grew to dislike them and be aggressive against them. Not towards his sister though. It was hard not hating her for being the favourite, but Ajax, too, wanted to see her happy and tried to be as good a big brother to her as he could. Being in the shadow of his younger sibling was... rough, but he loved her, after all, even though he wasn't good at expressing it, and he knew she loved him too. She was the one part of his family that kept him from hating his own name.
But after a partcularily long journey to North Blue, where they were supposed to meet up with a new business partner, this one part was lost, as his parents returned without little Clara.
Apparently, they had been attacked by pirates, and she had went overboard. They didn't know if she was still alive.
Of course, they send people looking for her, but they could never find her, and even though they never gave up, they had to reluctantly accept how likely it was for her to be dead, and the troops looking for her became smaller and smaller, until they were limited to one single crew, and finally, none at all.
What came after the search for her ended is carved into his mind as the "time of mourning" or simply "The big gray", since he automatically affiliates everything in that period with the colour gray, a dull, hopeless colour. Just like his family became after it. This period still lasts until this day.
It was like all laughter had disappeared from their house with Clara. The worst was that it felt like she could come running down the stairs any second. Wherever he looked, it always seemed to be a place connected with her in some way. It was driving him insane. And ignoring how much they grieved, he could not help but blame his parents for it. They should have been watching over her! What was she doing on board anyway, she should have been hidden somewhere!
Those thoughts weren't exactly weakened by the lingering feeling that whatever he did, he could not replace her. He was the failure who wasn't given a chance to be anything else.
After some time, he couldn't take it anymore. He was out on the streets, getting into trouble all the time, but also getting stronger.
People were talking, naturally. He had been known as the "spoiled rich brat" before, but what would get a kid like him to get himself into so much trouble, and cause his poor parents so much more grief after they had already lost their precious daughter? Had he no heart? At first, such things hurt Ajax, but after a while, he learned to not care about what people thought. Incidentally, that was also the part of his life where he started smoking.
On the other hand, he started to think about the world a bit more, which didn't lead him to hating it any less, but rather did the opposite. But his hate shifted from his parents and a general everything to parents, politics, the economy, the government, naive people, ignorant people, and a lot of other things, but, most importantly, pirates. He came to accept that his parents weren't the ones (at least not the only ones) to blame for his sisters fate, it was, first of all, pirates. And though it was a personal kind of hate that he generalized to fit all pirates, his hate burned just as strong, if not stronger than any hate stemming from objective reasons or views.

So, when he turned eightteen, it was clear what he'd do: He got himself a small ship bought with his parents money, and started off as a bounty hunter. A job, he thought, that got him money, a chance to beat up pirates, and the opportunity to look for his sister by getting around. It didn't work out quite as well as he thought it would. It became clear to him that he had been naive (something he got mad at himself for) in thinking this would be easy. He couldn't even steer the ship, for gods sake! And fighting pirates was hard when they were bound to fight back, and had more experience than he did any day. As for the search for his sister.... well, turns out the likelyhood of just running into her in the middle of the street was, er, close to nonexistant.
While he had hated the world enough to be a great bounty hunter, he had also underestimated it. Or rather, he had overestimated the town he had grown up in, and thought that being a big fish in a small pond meant he was ready for the ocean.
As much as he hated to admit it, he needed some help if he wanted to do this. And so, he decided to become a marine. Information, contacts, regular payment... it was all there, and he'd still get to be out there fighting pirates. Before he joined up though, he went back to his parents once more, turned up out of the blue and basically ordered them to get him a devilfruit, any devilfruit. Their weak tries to explain that those were very hard to come by, and very expensive didn't faze him in the least, but for once in their lifes, his parents stood their ground, because in the end, they were merchants, and the thought of sacrificing such a rarity to help their son, who had proven again and again that he was unthankful and unreliable, on his mad quest was unthinkable.
Ajax threw a fit, but one could think that he had learned he couldn't get everything he wanted. Thought wrong, he simply stuck around until his parents had one on sale, and took it, without paying, or asking, for that matter, naturally.
After he had gotten what he needed, he disappeared without a word of thanks or goodbye, and joined the marine.
And he worked until he could do what he had wanted to do from the start: work in a position that'd give him as much time out on the sea as possible. After all, he might run across his sister someday like that, and the amount of information gotten first hand was unbeatable. He never doubted that he'd recognise her.
His job is, to put it short, to sneak into a pirates crew and measure just how dangerous they might be, by their deeds and personality.
After he thinks he gets the picture, he goes back to report. Bounties are made based on his report.
Recently, he has also been put to use in a more dangerous position: to infiltrate pirate crews for a longer time, until they trust him enough for him to lure them into a trap, or destroy them from the inside on way or another. Naturally, this is only worth it with strong pirate crews, making this job all the more dangerous. He learned that first hand, when he underestimated one crew he was in drastically. He had managed to lure them into the trap prepared for them, but had been to hasty in revealing himself when he quite literally stabbed one of them in the back. The captains reaction was... violent, and the reason for the slashing scar Ajax now calls his. The pirates were sure he was going to die, hell, he was sure he was going to, but the marines found him just in time. After some debating, Ajax made it clear to them that, if they would dare give him anotehr job, he might just as well quit being a marine alltogether. And, well, he was one of the most experienced spies out there (which isn't hard, considering most die on one of their missions early on), so he was given another chance.

Personality: Ajax is, for most of the time, a decent person.
He's a fast talker, tries to be charming towards the ladies, charismatic, and... a total, complete prick.
There are some serious problems in his personality, some of which he shows openly, some of which he doesn't even show to his closest friends(which he doesn't really have anyway).
He's incredibly arrogant and aggressive, and is used to get what he wants, whenever he wants. He takes little to no consideration of the feelings of others, he has nothing against killing or hurting people. He won't always tell them beforehand, but he's a man of his word, and if he does say something like: "I'll kill that guy, I swear!", then you can be sure he will kill that guy. No matter what anyone else says about it. It doesn't make him coldblooded, but actually rather hotheaded. And very headstrong.
He has a problem with authority, but he learned to accept it. He's accepting it very, very reluctantly, but that doesn't make much of a difference, as long as he's accepting it at all.
Even though he never shows it, he's always desperate for some affection, and afraid of many things, but mostly of failing at something. Or losing someone important to him. That's why he tries not to get too close to anyone, especially not people involved in one of his "jobs".
He shys away from any kind of comitment, or relationship. Even having a job is hard for him, though he tolerates it because it helps him find his sister. That sister, and the search for her, is actually very close to an obsession.
Aside from that, Ajax has a deep, burning hate for just about everything and everyone, with few exceptions. Mostly, though, that hate is very well thought through. Ajax happens to be a big thinker, close to a philosopher, when he isn't busy pretending to be someone he isn't or beating someone up. He has, at some point, come to the conclusion that the rest of the world is pretty damn stupid, but he has been rethinking that, making it something along the lines of "The rest of the world is pretty damn stupid and not really worth my time, but since I do take some risks by spending aforementioned time with it, I should at least not underestimate it.".
Underneath it all, what Ajax is is a bitter young man full of hate and contempt and an obsession with something he, somewhere in the depths of his heart, knows is probably gone forever.
