Grovire Raile Empty
PostSubject: Grovire Raile   Grovire Raile Icon_minitimeMon Jul 26, 2010 7:32 am

Name: Grovire ‘Accursed Architect’ Raile

Age: 34

Bounty: 999,000

Species: Fishman (flying fish)

Occupation: Carpenter, engineer, shipwright

Allegiance: Pirate of the Tarai Vengeance fishmen.

Home Village/Ocean: Tarai Current

Appearance: Has a relatively slim yet significantly muscled body, (like a cheetah, except it’s a fishman, not a big cat) has no hair, has an elongated head which is shaped like an arrow, with gills on either side of his neck. Smooth pointed scales run down his whole body, and he sports a flat fish tail. Has a pair of folded fins on each side of his arms, which can extend to wide wing like fins. He wears a pair of beach shorts at his waist, but nothing more. His feet are finned, but those fins are tattered.

History: Long before the World Government took the Tarai current as their method of moving across the oceans, there existed a clan of nomadic fishmen who followed the current's flow all their lives, isolated from Fishman Island; This clan sported some uniquely evolved fishmen, adapted to life on the move. Then, the World Government purged the clan, either killing or enslaving most of the fishmen, completely destroying the nomadic clan and their heritage.
Or at least they thought they did.

Grovire was always the timid coward, always being bullied by his fellow nomad youngsters, and always obeying those who looked intimidating; no one stood up for him, and he hadn’t the know how or courage to stand up for himself. The elders didn’t seem to pay attention to his plight either; his sire was strict with him, and he had no mother. All tribe members were notable for their skills in hunting and combat, even the children, but Grovire never had such skills, apart from the one skill that others dismissed as trivial; his Tarai Nomad clan among other Tarai nomad clans always moved where the current took them, and never needed to craft boats or other objects, relying on their own bodies to carry them, trusting in the current to guide them. Grovire would always construct random objects from random pieces of debris floating along the current. If he needed a hunting tool, he wouldn’t just craft any weapon; any of his brethren could carve spears out of bone. Rather, it would be quite a complicated tool that could, regardless, achieve it’s purpose efficiently and quickly. However, he would always either hide his tools from his brethren, or dispose of them when told to.

One day, he was sick and tired of the treatment he received, and swam off on his own, leaving his tribe behind. He relied on his creativity to make shelter, capture food and hide from predators. Soon, he reached the edge of the current. Afraid but curious, he ventured out of the current, and saw something he rarely ever saw; a ship, or a fleet of ships. He swam through the fleet, awed by the military might and efficiency of the navy. That moment was unfortunate, however, since swimming into fishing net was the last thing he planned to do. Losing all his tools out of surprise, he was hauled up and interrogated. The men in black threatened him with torture. Unable to bear the terror, he told them about the tribes existing in the Tarai Current. Just then, one of the marines reported in with Grovire’s tools; they were fetched out of the water after he was reeled in. While the man in charge did not seem fond of the little fish person, nor did he disregard the potential he saw in the creature in front of him; he smirked, and said “Fish boy, your cooperation is about to be rewarded.”

He was shipped off to the Shabondy Archipelago; here he spent the rest of his life vaguely aware of the horrors he’d betrayed his own blood to, nor did he wish to think about it; now an official servant of one of the Tenryuubito, and was in charge of making tools for the Tenryuubito’s pleasure and delight, and the occasional palace repair work. He traveled to and from the Holy Capital at times, brought along by the Noble so he could show off his collection of personal slaves. The other slaves always looked at him with disgust and contempt; they clearly knew what Grovire had done. He was beat up by the guards, and even by his fellow captives. Unable to take anymore, he ate a devil fruit he sneaked out from the World Noble’s secret storehouse. With this he had invoked his curse; never again would he swim the calm blue seas of the ocean, or traverse with it’s wild fauna and swim over meadows of coral. Years went by and his timid cowardice gave way to bitter resentment, most of such resentment aimed at himself. He endured his abuse over the ages, mindlessly tinkering with some tools or ‘toys’ he made, showing others the image of a broken slave who served mindlessly for all time.

Which he certainly wasn’t; this was just a guise, to fool everyone, even himself; he would secretly either find or create hidden passages within the palace, and within these hidden labyrinths he would work on his craft, fashioning many kinds of tools, or even simple or complex puzzles. He would also hang around the store room from where he got his devil fruit. Never did he leave the palace unless forced, and never then did he even spare a glimpse at the sea, or any other slaves, only ever concerning himself about what he was told to do by his superiors and his trinkets. By this time, many World Government officials recognized his potential, and he gave advice regarding architecture and ships. Without realizing It, he had aided the World Government in revolutionizing their ship and architecture designs; he also happened to create a reputation for himself.

More than 2 decades passed, and he still remained as he was, pretending to be, but not far from, empty. It would have stayed that way, and he would have lead an unremarkable life until he died- if not for Salvat.

He came without warning one day, sneaking into the room Grovire was tinkering with his latest tool in. He was slightly surprised, but he simply hid the surprise. Salvat had heard of Grovire, the “Accursed Architect” and his rumoured skills with the saw and hammer. Salvat, bravado brimming and insolence seething (being loud and demanding) asked Grovire to join him and his comrades, build a boat and help bring about a new world. Grovire laughed at his statement, and simply refused; he just didn’t care about what happened to the world, as long as he was there to suffer with himself, until he died. Then Salvat had backhanded Grovire unconscious. When Grovire woke next, he saw Salvat battling Marines, one with several axes in particular; and he was losing. Grovire could no longer turn away, shocked at the spirit in which Salvat battled, even when he was clearly losing. When he was finally floored, disarmed and beaten, he still struggled. Grovire began to feel his heart tug painfully, and told Salvat off, explaining what he had done to their people. Salvat backhanded Grovire with all the strength he could muster, and told him to make up for his sins by helping him take down the World Government. Grovire froze; never had any fishman looked at him with so little hatred or menace in their eyes. At that point, a sea king carried Grovire off the ground, and was taken to safety with Salvat.

He explained that he ate a devil fruit, could not swim but still could craft a vessel for their use. After several months, the submersible, flat shaped Humbolt Wing was operational; His single greatest achievement. He has been maintaining the ship and the crew’s weapons ever since.

Personality: Once a coward and a pushover, Grovire has become hardened in mind and soul, if a little bitter; he truly does not enjoy the company of others (the only one with even less social contact is Johnstoni) unless their company means them helping Grovire with repairs and or resource gathering. He is never happy unless he is creating new tools or tending to his beloved vessel’s repairs. He has great pride in his skills as a carpenter, though he never shows his true feelings; he keeps his thoughts about everything except the ship and his craft to himself. A pained expression crosses Grovire’s face when he sees young children of any race, as he knows that innocence is nothing but a dream. Any puzzle will incite his interest, though those puzzles that do impress him are long, complex and mentally damaging. His mind, no matter how one sees him, is impossible to decipher. Whenever speaking to the Captain of first mate, he tends to be cynical and pessimistic, but gets to the point. He dislikes hypocrites greatly, and ignores those who have delusions of grandeur; the only ‘dreamer’ he obeys is his captain, because he sees Salvat’s determination, and that is confirmation enough for him.

Ship: Humbolt Wing

Ship Flag: a red halo divided up into three curved arrows on a dark blue background; at the center is a falchion and a hook crossed together.

Devil Fruit: Kyomei Kyomei no mi
type: paramecia
effect: allows user to send out waves of high frequency that vibrate molecules+particles at an accelerated rate

Special Abilities: Being a shipwright, he has intense knowledge of ships; that much is known by the crew. What no one, save Salvat and Crut, knows specifically where his talents lie. He cultivated his talent in espionage and sabotage as well. On rare occasions, very rare, he will utilize his devil fruit powers, though he hates it; He also has learned a bare minimum of Gyojin karate techniques (2 moves alone), which he also loathes to use, unless it involves heavy lifting and no extra hands to help him. He can glide, but not far over the ocean, for good reason. He is the best pilot for the Humbolt Wing, as only he knows his ship’s capabilities.

Learned Techniques (Keep it 1-25):
Karate moves-
Hyakumaigawara Seiken (100 tile true punch): A hard punch that is said to have enough force to send an opponent through 100 tiles.

Wanto Giri (arm blade slash): an attack using his arm fin to strike a blow on the opponents back neck.

His DF powers are not quite attack oriented:
resonance sonar: a weak particle vibrating wave sent through dense material (such as rock) that bounces back any irregularities (cracks and faults) to the source, showing weak points in structures as the waves bounce back.

He also mixes his DF powers with his karate (Not sure how to translate to japanese)
Kyomei Giri (resonance chop): Variant of the original; slams arm fin into an object or target, sending subtle, slow acting but precise sharp waves through an object, acting on layers of material.

100 joules punch: A variant of the original; utilizes concentrated waves at a point through his fist.

(NOTE; when this attack is used, he can only use it 2 times; anymore and his arm will shatter. More importantly, whenever he even uses his devil fruit for long, he will weaken, and faces the possibility of death [for more than 5 posts usage of his devil fruit])

Weapons/Items: His hacksaw, a screwdriver

Goals: Atone for his sins, and care for his ship.

My only question is, would a fishman survive with a df? im not sure, one piece universe has not made it clear, so i dont see why not, however keep in mind, you cannot fly only glide, so therefore since everything seems solid,
